Manu Dibango is a saxophonist, vibraphonist, pianist, flutist and singer.

 

Pioneer – and for many the inventor – of World Music, creator of the jazz-soul-groove cocktail “Afro-Soul Thing”, the music of the so-called and world-famous Manu Dibango is hard to define as he sublimed and found interest in every musical genres in his more than 60-years’ career.

 

Manu Dibango had contributed so much to the music of the last half century that critics and music specialists will need quite a while to admit how talented, creative and groung-breaking he was.

 

Until his last show on February 2nd, 2020 with the Soul Makossa Gang, the 86 years old saxophonist kept on setting venues on fire worldwide while creating with as much artistic requirement as he was rejoicing in performing on stage.

 

Manu Dibango also composed the soundtracks of several movies and cartoons since the 70s including “Kirikou and the Wild Beasts” (2005) or the credits for “Kimboo”, the very first African cartoon (1989).
